Making a suitable habitat for fairies not only benefits the fairies but also lots of other wildlife who will also love these suggestions!
With more and more natural fairy habitats being cleared to make way for human developments there are now far fewer suitable habitats for fairies. Ideally in the wild they prefer to reside in a secluded forest grove or dell, but many fairies are now becoming urban fairies and will happily live at the bottom of gardens given the right conditions. 5 Top Tips To Help Encourage Fairies
Here are some easy things you can do to help wildlife, and the fairies in your garden.
1. Make a suitable habitat
Fairies need shelter and somewhere to hide, fairies are very shy creatures and need a lots of natural foligae. Also a small sheltered patch of grass or a wildflower meadow is ideal. Simply leave a small patch grow wild in at the bottom of your garden.
2. Provide Water
All fairies need water to drink and bathe in. A pond is ideal but if this is not possible provide a shallow dish or bird bath containing clean water (birds will also love you for this.)
3. Make a log pile

Making a log pile at the bottom of your garden gives fairies a great place to shelter and will also encourage other benficial wildlife.
4. Go organic!
Fairies are most at home when sharing your garden with a wide variety of native wildlife. Insects are important for pollinating flowers and will also collect nectar to share with fairies. Anything that may harm wildlife is also dangerous for your fairies. Wherever possible avoid using chemicals in your garden.
5. Plant some fairy food
Fairies main source of food is nectar so plant as many nectar rich plants in your garden as possible. Try planting the following flowers, available at any garden center:
- Butterfly Bush or Buddleias
- Poached Egg Plant (Limnanthes douglasii)
- Honesty (Lunaria annua)
- Snapdragons
- Lavender
- Nastursiums
